Hi!
I think the QServer concept seems great - we are a community radio station which might have a number of listening peaks, rather than a steady load. But if someone airs a very popular show in the beginning of the month - it could consume all of our GBs so we would have to purchase more to keep the service alive, right? From a cost control (budgeting) perspective, this doesn't suit us. An idea would be some kind of combination of the QServer concept with the Standard or Freedom package. We could buy "50 slots + 100 GB/month extra". So we would always have our 50 slots, while being able to use the 100 GBs for handling peaks. If you want to make sure those 100 GB lasts longer than a few days you could have a slot limit even for the peaks - "50 slots + 100 GB/month, max 150 slots". Am I complicating things..? To us it would make sense to pay a fixed fee per month, knowing there's always a minimum service level while having some flexibility for "peak traffic". As a suggestion for situations like you mention i would recommend using the standard servers for your basic slots and using a qserver relay server to take on the flexibility.
you can fire this up and it will form a cluster in the YP for your listeners to move to the Qserver. We offer servers in most shapes and sizes but there is no way to burst into additional slots when needed as changes like this always require a server restart. Maybe the freedom server based on a Per Mbit basis, eg if you purchase 5Mbit and need more listeners all you do is drop your bitrate and create extra slots. many ideas i hope they help. Nick
